Imaginary World of the Nutcracker // Dec 7 - Jan 7

Dec 1 | 6 p.m. & 9 p.m. | Subscribers Exclusive

Hakanaï transcends the boundaries of art, imagination and real world.  Experience this cutting-edge choreographic work from the world-renowned digital artists Adrien M & Claire B during one night only show in DC. Be among the first to see Hakanaï before ARTECHOUSE presents it during Art Basel & Miami Art Week 2017.

Hakanaï – a Japanese word that refers to the ephemeral, fragile, and transitory – is a 40-minute long choreographic work. It is a meditation on the delicate dance between humanity and technology. Inside a cube fashioned from translucent veils onto which a graphic universe is projected in real time, a solo dancer takes a visual journey into a 3D space between dreams and reality. Using video projection mapping, CGI, and sensors, the cube and dancer interact, pushing the boundaries of physicality, art, nature, light and technology. Dance, visuals and accompanying music are all performed live, ensuring a unique immersive experience each time.

"Everything is generated and animated in real time. No recorded video. Everything is live," explains Claire B.

The audience experiences the performance from three sides, seated around the cube when the dancer enters.
